7 Ways to Reduce Packaging Costs Without Risking Damage
Practical steps to lower your corrugated box spend while keeping products safe in transit.

1. Right-size your boxes
Oversized boxes cost more board, more filler and more freight. Reviewing your top-selling products and matching each to a close-fitting box size often delivers the biggest saving.
2. Standardise on fewer sizes
Fifty slightly different box sizes means small orders of each. Consolidating to a smaller range lets you buy each size in larger quantities at lower per-box prices.
3. Order in economical quantities
Per-box prices fall significantly at higher quantity breaks. If you have storage space, ordering two or three months of stock at once can reduce costs noticeably.
4. Match the board to the job
Do not use 5 ply where a good 3 ply will do — but do not under-specify either, because one damaged order can cost more than a year of box savings. Test samples with your real product.
5. Use higher-grade paper instead of more plies
Sometimes a 3 ply box with better kraft paper performs as well as a 5 ply box made from weaker paper — at lower weight and freight cost.
6. Simplify printing
One or two-colour printing on kraft board looks professional and costs much less than full-colour designs.
7. Buy direct from the manufacturer
Buying from the factory removes trader margins and gives you direct access to technical advice. Yamuna Packaging manufactures in Sonipat and supplies businesses directly with GST invoicing.
