Printed vs Plain Corrugated Boxes for E-commerce

Compare presentation, cost and flexibility to decide whether your online brand needs printed shipping boxes.

Plain kraft boxes

Plain brown boxes are the most economical and flexible option. One box can ship many different products, stock is easy to manage, and they can be ordered in smaller quantities. Many brands start here and add a printed sticker or branded tape.

Printed boxes

A printed box turns every delivery into brand exposure. Customers recognise your parcel on arrival, the unboxing feels more premium, and repeat purchases and social sharing tend to improve. Printed boxes can also carry handling marks, product details or return instructions.

Cost and minimum quantities

Printing involves plates and machine setup, so printed boxes have a minimum run and cost slightly more per box. At higher volumes the difference becomes small, and the branding value usually outweighs it.

Mailer boxes for a premium feel

Tuck-in kraft mailer boxes are popular with D2C brands. They open neatly, need no tape and present the product well — printed or plain. They are ideal for apparel, cosmetics, accessories and subscription kits.

Which should you choose?

If your product range and volumes are still changing, start with plain boxes in a few standard sizes. Once you have steady volumes in a size, move that size to a printed box. Yamuna Packaging supplies both and can help you plan the switch.
